Zissis Mamouris

Scientific Supervisor of Genetic Analysis

Zissis Mamouris is a Professor of Animal Population Genetics in the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the University of Thessaly. He holds a BSc in Biology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1984) and a PhD (1989) in Population Genetics from the University of Paris VII.

Since 1994, he has served as a faculty member at the University of Thessaly, where he was appointed Professor of Genetics in 2007. From 2018 to 2023, he served as Rector of the University of Thessaly. His research interests include genetics, genomics, and metagenomic analyses of terrestrial and aquatic animal populations as well as human populations.

He is a member of the editorial boards of four scientific journals and a regular reviewer for 51 international journals. He has participated in 55 national and international research projects (serving as coordinator in 23 of them). He has supervised nine completed PhD theses, is currently supervising three, and has served on the advisory committees of sixteen PhD candidates, twelve of whom have already defended their theses. He has also supervised thirty-five Master’s dissertations.

He is a member of the Laboratory of Genetics, Comparative and Evolutionary Biology (BIOZ) and has contributed to more than 180 peer-reviewed publications, with an h-index of 40 and over 4,100 citations.
