Dimitrios Kouretas was born in Patras in 1962.<\/p>\n

He studied Pharmacy at the University of Patras and received his PhD in Biochemistry from the Department of Chemistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. From 1990 to 1992 he worked as a researcher at the Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA.<\/p>\n

He is Professor of Animal Physiology-Toxicology and Director of the Laboratory of Animal Physiology at the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, University of Thessaly, Larissa.<\/p>\n

His research interests focus on the evaluation of the bioactivity of plant polyphenolic extracts, the development of novel bio-functional foods and feeds, the evaluation of human metabolic profile, and the investigation of the toxic effects of long-term, low-dose exposure to chemical substances. He has co-authored more than 250 articles in international peer-reviewed scientific journals and has been cited over 16.000 times with an h-index of 69.<\/p>\n

He has been an EU expert on the \u2018Foodforlife\u2019 technology platform for 2007-2013 and 2014-2020.\u00a0He is Associate Editor at \u201cFood and Chemical Toxicology\u201d and \u201cEnvironmental Research\u201d and Academic Editor at \u201cOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity\u201d and \u201cAntioxidants\u201d.<\/p>\n

His work on food innovation has been awarded in Greece and in the EU. In 2013-2014 he was Deputy Rector of the University of Thessaly, and since 2018 a member of the Expert Committee of the Commission on Chemical and Nutrition Crises (risk assessment of chemical threats).<\/p>\n
